The country
The first independent Black republic in history, Haiti occupies the western part of the island of Hispaniola, in the Caribbean. The country has an exceptionally rich culture, language and history — and a population whose resilience commands respect.
The humanitarian context
Haiti is going through a multidimensional crisis that has a lasting impact on the living conditions of its population. Insecurity and armed violence, particularly in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area, are causing massive internal displacement and impeding access to essential services. Added to this are the resurgence of cholera, persistent food insecurity and high exposure to natural disasters — earthquakes, hurricanes, floods.
The situation today
Humanitarian needs span every sector where the association focuses its work: health, water and sanitation, education, child protection, psychosocial support. Local actors — community organisations, health facilities, schools — remain the first responders: our intervention model is built on them.
Our presence
HASDI designs, funds and steers its programmes from France; implementation is entrusted to Haitian partners bound by formal agreements, selected and monitored over time. Discover our intervention model and our nine areas of work.
